Admission Procedures for
College Students
Step
1 Complete
a DVC admission application.
Step 2 Take English and Math Assessment.
Step 3 Apply for financial aid and Extended Opportunity Program and
Services (EOPS) as necessary.
Step 4 Register for Counseling 105 College Orientation.
Step 5 Register for classes on or after your assigned registration
date (after you meet
with your counselor).
Step 6 Pay fees.
Step 7 Obtain DVC
student identification card.
College Admission Application All students must file an application for admission
except
currently enrolled students. If you are a former DVC student who
missed a primary semester (spring/fall) you must complete a new
application for admission. If you are still in high school, please
review the High School Student
Procedures first.
Admissions
Application
Priority Registration Students who meet one of the following conditions will receive a
priority registration appointment time.
- Complete assessment and take COUNS 105 for college orientation and advisement.
- Complete the assessment exemption form only if you are
- enrolling in a job-related course
- enrolling in a course with no skill prerequisite
- enrolling in two units or less during this academic term
(The courses that are exempt from assessment and orientation are listed in the Schedule of Courses.)
- Earned an Associate Degree or higher.
Prerequisites
Some courses have prerequisites that restrict enrollment. To
enroll in courses with prerequisites you must either:
- have completed the prerequisite at
DVC or,
- have completed the prerequisite at another college (official transcript
and
prerequisite form are required) or,
- be currently taking the prerequisite
course at DVC, CCC, or LMC or,
- challenge the prerequisite (see the
Schedule of Courses for more details).
Telephone Registration
All students are eligible to register
by telephone on or after their registration appointment time.
See the Schedule of Courses for specific instructions.
Assessment
The following students have satisfied all or part of assessment
testing.
English - Students who have completed a college English course, or
have earned a score of 3 on the English portion of the College Board
Advance Placement English test.
Math - Student who have completed a college math course, or
have earned the score of 3 on the math portion of the College Board
Advance Placement Math test (AB or BC).
Assessment is a 2 hour session that measures your current
skills in reading, writing, and math. These tests will meet
prerequisites for certain courses and will help your advisor in
recommending the most appropriate courses for your educational goals.
Once you have completed the assessment process you are eligible to
attend a Counseling 105 course. Please contact the Assessment Center for

Orientation & Advisement
- Students who have completed less
than 12 college units are encouraged to register for Counseling
105, which meets for a total of six hours.
- Students who have completed 12
college units should contact the Counseling Center by calling (925)
685-1230 ext. 2276 to arrange for a counseling appointment.
Transcripts
High School and College transcripts may be required to meet
prerequisites for
some classes. When required submit the completed
prerequisite form and transcripts to Admissions/Records. Check the course schedule or catalog
for prerequisite requirements.
Registration
To receive a priority registration the above process must be
