LOCATION: Student Service Center HOURS: Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 7:00 pm; Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Drop-In Test Times: Monday - Friday ~ 9 am, 12 pm, and 3 pm January 2008 hours: January 3, 4 and 11: Open 8 am - 5 pm — tests at 9 am, 12 pm, and 3 pm January 7 - 10 and 14 - 15: Open 8 am - 7 pm — tests at 9 am, 12 pm, 3 pm and 5 pm January 16: Return to regular schedule

English Assessment

The English Assessment is a one hour written exam consisting of the following elements:

1.Read a short article provided by the proctor using your best reading strategies to understand the author’s message and to form your own reactions to the author’s ideas.

2.Part I : Write a paragraph summary of the article, in your own words, that tells what you read in the article as clearly and as completely as possible.

3.Part II : Write an essay that explains how you respond to the ideas in the article, reflecting on those ideas and exploring your opinion. Support your own ideas with evidence from the essay.

This test will recommend the following  reading and writing courses:

English 122 Freshman English: Composition & Reading (Transferable to CSU and UC, AA)

English 118 College Writing Development

English 116 College Reading Development

English 98 Introduction to College Writing

English 96 Introduction to College Reading
