If you are a NEW STUDENT:
New students are those students who have
never attended college or who have completed less than 12 units of college
work. If you have never attended DVC:
- Complete an application to DVC and turn
it into the Admissions Office.
- Sign up for assessment and COUNSELING
105 - ORIENTATION TO COLLEGE at the Admissions Office. (You receive
priority status for registration upon completion of Counseling 105. If
you choose not to attend Counseling 105, your registration date will be
significantly delayed and you will only be able to meet with a counselor
during Open Registration, the week before classes begin, or after
the new term begins.)
- Go to the Book Center and purchase a
Starter Kit. This contains the required materials you will need for your
first meeting of Counseling 105.

How will I be placed in English and mathematics courses?
Because students enter college with differing levels of preparation and
different goals, and because some English and math courses have
prerequisites, we ask students to take an assessment test and meet with a
counselor for placement into those courses. The assessment test for math and
English take approximately 3 hours, and in addition to multiple choice
questions, you will also be asked to write a short essay.
For further information, contact the Assessment Center at (925) 685-1230,
Ext. 2545. The hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m. on Friday (see Campus Map). See
further information on-line.
