Veterans Office Hours

To Start Your Benefits – New and New Transfer Students
Please fill out the Veteran’s and Dependent’s Questionnaire and submit it to our VA Office, located in the Admissions Annex, so that we can give you the appropriate forms to complete
What We Will Need To Certify You
1) VA Education Benefits Form – which form you use will be determined by your responses on the questionnaire mentioned above
2) Certified Member 4 copy of your DD214 or original NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility) and a copy of your educational benefits “KICKER” – Veterans only
Please note: it takes the VA Office in Muskogee, OK approximately 6-8 weeks to process these first two items.
3) Submit Official Transcripts from all colleges attended. Transcripts must be on file in the Admissions Office at least two weeks prior to scheduling your Counseling Appointment. Official Transcripts are mandatory for certification.
4) Declaration of Major Form needs to be taken to your Course Letter Appointment and turned in to your Counselor.
5) Veterans Course Letter Appointments may be scheduled by calling the Counseling Office at 685-1230, extension 2276. Course Letter Appointments take approximately 1 hour.
6) Request for Certification Form needs to be turned in to the Veterans Representative once you have registered for the classes you want to have certified. Each semester you must submit a new Request for Certification.
When all of these items are in the DVC Veteran’s Office, your file will be evaluated and then certified with the VA in Muskogee. Evaluation and certification take approximately 5-7 working days for us to complete and up to 30 days for the VA to complete.
Adds/Drops or Name/Address Changes
Please contact the Veterans Representative with any changes to your schedule, name and/or address. It is important that all information in your file be up to date as the VA pays educational benefits based on your actual attendance in each class.
Monthly Verification
All Montgomery GI students must contact the VA on the last day of each month to verify their enrollment. You may call (877) 823-2378 or go online to www.gibill.va.gov and follow the link to “WAVE” program.
Short-Term Classes
Veterans/Dependents are cautioned when enrolling in a short-term class. The VA will only consider your enrollment for the actual days of the short-term class, not the entire semester.
Satisfactory Progress
A minimum of 2.0 grade point average must be maintained. A veteran/dependent will be ineligible for benefits in the semester following three consecutive semesters in which his/her GPA. is below 2.0. Also, completion of less than 51% of courses attempted for three consecutive semesters will make a veteran/dependent ineligible for benefits. Guidelines have been established by the Veterans Administration (VA) and the California Bureau of School Approvals which govern the activities of the veteran/dependent attending school under the GI bill.
