Student Wait List FAQs
The wait list is a way to prioritize the enrollment of students after a class has reached its maximum. There are no guarantees that you will be enrolled from the wait list; therefore, it is always best to enroll in a class with open seats. If you are on a wait list, you must attend the first class meeting to be considered to add the class.
If the class is closed and has a wait list (not all classes have wait lists,) you will be asked when you register on Web Advisor if you want to add your name to the wait list. Web Advisor and the telephone registration system will let you know that the course is full and will allow youto add to a wait list; however, it does not tell you your ranking on the wait list (See numbers 8 and 9 below.)
If both the class and wait list are full, you should look for another section to add. If students drop the class, there may be wait list seats available. You can review the enrollment of a class and the wait list availability on Web Advisor (search for classes.)
Adding your name to a wait list is like enrolling in the course. All registration rules are enforced (except time conflicts) at the time you place your name on the wait list; therefore,if you do not meet the prerequisite, you cannot place your name on the wait list.
Not all classes have wait lists. If the class is closed and does not have a wait list, you should look for an open section.
Web Advisor checks all registration conditions before your name is placed on the wait list (it does not check for time conflicts. Time conflicts are verified after you have received permission to enroll in the course at the time of enrollment.) If you have a hold, a debt, are dismissed, do not meet the prerequisite, have already taken the course (repeatability issues), or it is before your date and time to register, you will not be allowed to place your name on the wait list.
No. You are only allowed to be registered or on the wait list for one section of any given course. You can however, add your name to the wait list of other courses.
You can go to Web Advisor and select “manage my wait list” to view your rank on the wait list. This number changes as students drop the class; therefore, it is important to review this screen on a regular basis. This feature is only available on Web Advisor. You cannot call the telephone registration system to obtain your wait list ranking.
This information is available to all students on Web Advisor on the “manage my wait list” screen. Students can review their wait list status, remove their name from a wait list, or determine what number they are on a wait list using this screen. You cannot call the telephone registration system to determine if permission has been granted. This feature is only available on Web Advisor.
You will be given permission to register when you are first on the wait list and a student drops from the regular course. An email will be sent to you when permission to register is granted. You can register for the course on either telephone registration or Web Advisor; however, you can only obtain your wait list status from Web Advisor. We recommend that you review the “manage my wait list” page on Web Advisor daily to check your status as there may be instances when the email message does not get delivered due to limitations on your email box, etc. Once you are given permission, you will have 5 calendar days to register (or less if permission is granted less than 5 days before the section starts.) If you do not register within the allotted time, your name is dropped from the wait list. NOTE: If the course is about to begin and you have not been granted permission to register, you may want to consider removing your name from the wait list and enrolling in an open section since there are no guarantees you will be added to the class. If you choose to remain on the wait list, you must attend the first class meeting to be considered to add the class.
When you are granted permissions, an e-mail will be sent to the e-mail on file with the Admissions and Records Office. Please make sure to keep your e-mail updated. We recommend that you check your e-mail often when you are on waitlists. If you do not have an e-mail address, see question 12 below. Additionally, It is important to monitor your waitlist status on Web Advisor since e-mails are sometimes undeliverable and you may not receive an email notification; therefore, losing your opportunity to register.
You can review your wait list status at any time on Web Advisor. If you do not have an email address, you should review your status on a daily basis since you will only be given5 calendar days (or less if permission is granted less than 5 days before the section starts) to register if and when you receive permission to enroll.
Web Advisor can be accessed from any computer. There are computers with internet access at all public libraries, at the DVC Library, and in the many computer labs on campus as well as in the Information Center.
The “manage my wait list” option on Web Advisor allows students to remove themselves from the wait list.
You have 5 calendar days to enroll in the course once permission is granted (or less if permission is granted less than 5 days before the section starts.)
If you do not enroll within the allotted time, you are dropped off the wait list. It is important to monitor your waitlist status on Web Advisor since e-mails are sometimes undeliverable and you may not receive an email notification; therefore, losing your opportunity to register.
You can place your name on as many wait lists as you want as long as they are for different courses. Students are only allowed to be on the wait list or enrolled in one section of any given course. |
