BUDDHIST SITES of INDIA AND NEPAL In 2008, Judy Weitzner visited the eight places sacred to Buddhists: the birthplace, the place of enlightenment, the place where the first teachings were given...etc. The history and archeology of these sites is an amazing story. They were lost for centuries after Buddhism died out in India in the 13th Century. When the British Raj occupied India, archeologists uncovered the sites with the help of travel journals kept by Chinese pilgrims. Instructor: Judith Weitzner has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism for 40 years. She recently made a tour of the significant places in Buddha’s life. Lecture $5 (EC Members Free) |

MY LIFE IN A JAPANESE INTERNMENT CAMP Mrs. Fujioka will speak of her experiences during World War II when she and her family were sent from their home in the state of Washington to Tule Lake Internment Camp in northern California. She will tell you about life before being sent there, life there for 18 months, and her life after leaving the camp. Instructor: Mollie Fujioka is a long-time resident of Walnut Creek. She has been speaking on this subject for many years because she feels strongly that history should not repeat itself. She is pursuing historical materials for the Archives, to benefit graduate students' studies. Lecture $5 (EC Members Free) |
