BA DUAN JIN (CHINESE EXERCISE) Ba Duan Jin is a form of Chinese exercise. It is broken down into Eight Silken Movements that focus on different physical areas and meridians. THE ART OF BYZANTINE CONSTANTINOPLE Constantinople (Istanbul) was dedicated in 330 by the first Christian emperor Constantine I and came to be known as the "Queen of Cities." She was fabulously rich in both material wealth and magnificent buildings. The instructor will present a brief history of the medieval city with an emphasis on architectural sites that can still be seen by today's visitors. EGYPT: ISLAM AND NATIONALISM Egypt, the most populated country of the Arab world, has vast political and cultural influence over the Middle East and Northern Africa. Egypt is the major center of struggle between Secular Nationalism and Fundamental Islam. If the situation evolves into the dominance of fundamental Islam, there may be an impact on the political climate all over the Muslim world. The instructor, who lived and worked in Egypt for many years, analyzes, from an insider’s perspective, diverse political, economic, social and cultural environment in the country, with a special emphasis on the reasons for the current popularity of Islamic political ideas. AMERICAN IMMIGRATION EXPERIENCE OF IRISH, ITALIANS, & JEWS Between 1845 and 1925, almost 40 million immigrants came to America, the greatest human migration in history. Pressures of overpopulation, domination by a foreign power, political and religious persecution, economic dislocation and crop failure, were components in the departure of peoples from their native lands. During this period, New York City was where the masses arrived from all over Europe. In this course, supplemented with a DVD documentary, we will examine the varied experiences of these three immigrant groups in adapting to American society. There will be assistance with focusing, aperture (f-stops), shutter speeds, ISO, white balance, depth of field, metering, and the best file sizes for your needs. LINCOLN AT GETTYSBURG On November 18 and 19, 1863, during the third year of the American Civil War, and a few months after the battle of Gettysburg, a careworn president came to Gettysburg, PA. He was not invited as the keynote speaker. The war was still raging, with no end in sight. The dedication of Soldiers National Cemetery, for the Union dead who fought at Gettysburg, was organized and orchestrated by the governors of the 18 states whose soldiers fought and died there.
