Press Releases - Cross Country Team wins first ever BIG 7 Championships for Diablo Valley College! 10/29/05 10 members earn All-Conference Honors. Coach Cruz named BIG 7 Conference Coach of the Year for Men’s and Women’s teams. Folsom Lake-Beals Point, Folsom, CA - DVC’s Men and Women’s Cross Country Teams came away from the BIG 7 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS at Folsom Lake, Beals Point, on Friday with Diablo Valley College’s first Conference Championships. The Women’s squad opened the meet with a convincing team victory as Danielle Sinclair and Vera Ross placed 3rd and 4th respectively to lead their teammates. Christena Tozel was 8th, Captain Whitney Bricker, who has been fighting an aggressive cold, was 12th and April Dyer was 13th to complete the top 5 scoring runners. Raquel Serna rounded out the team as she placed 31st. The women bested 2nd place Sacramento 40-68 for the team title. The Men’s squad was obviously inspired by the women’s team effort as they pulled away from an inspired American River team late in the race to garner their first Conference Championship in over 10 years and their first ever BIG 7 Championship. The combined Championships’ were the first ever for Diablo Valley College in their 50 year history! Ryan Mason, Lancer Smith and Harlan Lopez were the front-runner’s (tied for 2nd place) for the Vikings as they led their teammates with impressive times over the tough Beals Point course. Freshman Luis Padilla battled hard over the 4-mile course to grab a 9th place finish as teammate Rob Kuslits was 13th to complete the team scoring. Jonathan Foster and Jose Lorenzana were 24th and 27th respectively. The men, with their 2-3-4 finish dominated American River 31-43 for the team championship. Team Scores
