College for Kids has chosen its faculty carefully to insure subject matter expertise and skill in working with young people. Many were referred by teachers and administrators in local schools. Other instructors are Diablo Valley College faculty members. All have had practical experience with subjects they teach and years of teaching experience.
Note: All College for Kids staff members (instructors and aides) are fingerprinted and cleared through the Federal Bureau of Investigation as well as the Department of Justice.
There are two 3-week sessions of College for Kids. Both sessions teach the same content in each class. Session II is not a continuation of Session I. Classes are held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Generally classes are one hour long, with the exceptions of Photographic Exploration, Dig It! Archaeology and the Spectrum of Science classes at the San Ramon campus. A student can sign up for one, two or three classes each session, but classes must be consecutively scheduled. A student may not sign up for 1st and 3rd periods only. College for Kids does not provide supervision outside of class time.
Spectrum of Science has coordinated with College for Kids to offer six, one-week camps that run consecutively with the CFK dates and times. The camps are broken into two age groups, 4th-6th grades and 7th-9th grades that run according to session. All classes are in Physics and students can take one week or all three weeks. These classes do not build upon one another. They are simply different lessons and activities each week. The cost is $150. Space is limited, so please register early!
All classes are $65 with the exception of Photographic Exploration and Dig It! (Archaeology), which are $130, as they are 2-hour classes and Spectrum of Science (San Ramon Campus), which is $150 per week.
Classes must enroll at least 10 students and, in most cases, will be limited to 25. All students are enrolled on a first-come-first-served basis. Classes with enrollment less than 10 students are subject to cancellation by College for Kids. Waiting lists are available for some classes.
Students are expected to follow the rules of the campus and to conduct themselves in a manner which facilitates instruction and the learning process. Disruptive students will be dismissed from the program. No skateboards, scooters or roller blades allowed on campus at any time. Parents who must pick their child up early must sign them out at the office (L146). No excuses! Please call the office in advance, so a staff member can have your child ready for you. Visitors in the classroom are not permitted without prior permission of the Director.
Students who wish to drop a class must do so no less than close of business (5 p.m.) 7 days prior to the start date of the class or they will not receive a refund. A class that starts on June 14, must be dropped by 5 p.m. on June 7. A class that starts on July 5 must be dropped by 5 p.m. on June 28. Refunds are processed through our online registration site and will be credited back in the same method as the original payment. College for Kids does not issue refunds once the drop date has passed.
In order to reduce the need to refund credit cards numerous times in the event that you would like to make changes to the class(es) selected, all dropped classes prior to the refund deadline(s) will result in a credit to the account. In order to use this credit, you must first drop the class(es). You may then add the new classes in a new transaction and apply the credit to these classes. If there is a balance, or additional credit, that will be reflected at check out.
Anyone who has dropped the class(es) prior to the deadline and has not used their credit will receive a refund back to the credit card once the deadline has passed. Please allow up to 15 days for refunds to be processed.
