College for Kids has chosen its faculty carefully to insure subject matter expertise and skill in working with young people. Many were referred by teachers and administrators in local schools. Other instructors are Diablo Valley College faculty members. All have had practical experience with subjects they teach and years of teaching experience.

Dates for College for Kids summer 2014

There are two 3-week sessions of College for Kids. Classes are held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Generally classes are one hour long, with the exception of a Photography class which is 2 hours. A student can sign up for one, two or three classes each session, but classes must be consecutively scheduled. College for Kids does not provide supervision outside of class time.

  • Session 1:  June 17 thru July 3 (9 classes)

  • Session 2:  July 8 thru July 24 (9 classes)


Times Pleasant Hill Campus

  • Period 1 - 12:50 to 1:50 p.m.
  • Period 2 - 2 to 3 p.m.
  • Period 3 - 3:10 to 4:10 p.m.

Times San Ramon Campus

  • Period 1 - 12:50 to 1:50 p.m.
  • Period 2 - 1:55 to 2:55 p.m.
  • Period 3 - 3 to 4 p.m.


All classes are $60 with the exception of Photographic Exploration, which is $120, as it is a 2-hour class.

Class size

Classes must enroll at least 12 students and, in most cases, will be limited to 20. All students are enrolled on a first-come-first-served basis. We do not have a waiting list.

Campus and classroom behavior

Students are expected to follow the rules of the campus and to conduct themselves in a manner which facilitates instruction and the learning process. Disruptive students will be dismissed from the program. No skateboards, scooters or roller blades allowed on campus at any time. All students will have a College for Kids' identification badge that MUST be worn while on campus. Written permission from the College for Kids office is required for students to leave class early for any reason. Visitors in the classroom are not permitted without prior permission of the director.

Refund Policy

Students who wish to drop a class must do so no less than close of business (5 p.m.) 7 days prior to the start date of the class or they will NOT RECEIVE A REFUND. A class that starts on June 17, must be dropped by 5 p.m. on June 10. A class that starts on July 8 must be dropped by 5pm pm July 1.  Refunds are processed through our online registration site and will be credited back in the same method as the original payment. College for Kids does NOT issue refunds once the drop date has passed.

Transportation and Parking (New guidelines, please read):

Parents are entirely responsible for students' transportation. DROP OFF AND PICK UP is limited to Lot 1 and Lot 3 on the Pleasant Hill Campus. Staff members will be at those locations before and after each period to ensure the safety of every student as they arrive and depart. It is not required that you park your car in a parking space. We have coordinated with Police Services to allow a drive-thru procedure. However, should you wish to park, you must purchase a parking permit at the permit vending machines located in either Lot 1 or Lot 3.

This summer, for safety reasons, parents at the Pleasant Hill campus are required to have an identification permit displayed in their windshield during drop off and pick up times regardless of whether they park. These permits will be distributed on the first day of classes for both sessions.

The identification permit is a safety measure to ensure children are only dropped off / picked up by permitted adults. These permits will be given to each student on the first day of each session. College for Kids also has these permits available in our office. Parents who do not display a permit will be required to visit the College for Kids office to confirm their identification. They will also need to purchase a parking permit at one at the permit vending machines located in either Lot 1 or Lot 3. Observe all parking regulations while dropping off and picking up children. Violators will be cited. College for Kids is not responsible for citations.

Attention: The San Ramon campus is located in the Dougherty Valley area of San Ramon at 1690 Watermill Road. The DROP OFF AND PICK UP location is in the main parking lot on the south side of campus by the fountain. From Bollinger Canyon Road, go past the light at Watermill Road and make the first right turn. Drive past the Community Center and come around to the waterfall/fountain. Please keep in mind that College for Kids is NOT responsible for students who are dropped off and/or picked up in areas that do not have supervision. Permits are not required at this time.

(DVC-PHC) In an emergency and/or you will be late picking up your child, please call the College for Kids office at 925-969-4312 or the Campus Police at 925-685-1230, ext. 2338. Your child will be notified and will be waiting for you at Campus Police Services or the College for Kids office.

(DVC-SRC) In an emergency and/or you will be late picking up your child, please call the College for Kids office at 925-969-4312. College for Kids will contact the San Ramon campus to notify your child and provide alternate instructions for pick-up.
