Preparation:
Employers are increasingly emphasizing a college education for Lodging
Managers, formerly Hotel and Motel Managers. However, experience is generally
the first consideration. Management positions are frequently filled by
promotion.
Some colleges offer programs in Hotel and Motel Management. College
coursework should include Business Administration, Law, Accounting, Economics,
and Food Service Management. Experience can be gained by working as a Hotel Desk
Clerk , Bell Person, Maid, or Groundskeeper , and then being promoted. Some
Hotel Desk Clerks advance to Front Desk Managers and then on to Assistant
Manager or Manager.
