College for Kids General Information

Faculty
College for Kids has chosen its faculty carefully to insure subject matter expertise and skill in working with young people. Many were referred by teachers and administrators in central Contra Costa county's program for gifted and talented children. Other instructors are Diablo Valley College faculty members. All have had practical experience with the subjects they teach and/or years of teaching experience.

Dates for College for Kids in 2008 are:

  • Session I:  June 17 to July 3 --  9 classes
  • Session II:  July 08 to July 24   --  9 classes
Days and Times DVC
There are two 3-week sessions of College for Kids. Classes are held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Generally classes are one hour long, while a few meet for two hours. A student can sign up for one two or three classes each session.
  • Period 1 - 12:50 - 1:50 p.m.
  • Period 2 - 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
  • Period 3 - 3:10 - 4:10 p.m.

Times SRC

  • Period 1 - 12:50 - 1:50 p.m.
  • Period 2 - 1:55 - 2:55p.m.
  • Period 3 - 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
 

Tuition
The cost per session in 2008: $50 per  class in Session I,  $50 per class in Session II; and  $100 respectively for a two-hour class.

Class Size
Classes must enroll at least 12 students and in most cases will be limited to 20. All students are enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Campus and Classroom Behavior

Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner which facilitates instruction and the learning process. Disruptive students will be dismissed from the program. Visitors in the classroom are not permitted without prior permission of director.  As a general rule we do not allow visitors the first two days of classes.

Students are expected to observe the rules of the campus where no skate boards, scooters or roller blades are allowed.  Please do not bring skate boards, scooters or roller blades to campus.

Refund Policy
Since space is reserved, NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN EXCEPT WHEN CLASSES HAVE BEEN CANCELED.

Transportation
Parents are entirely responsible for student' transportation. Parents must make arrangements with their children regarding what the child is to do if the parent is unable to pick him/her up. Diablo Valley College cannot assume responsibility for students while they are not in class. To assure student safety, DVC instructors will conscientiously monitor attendance. OBSERVE ALL PARKING REGULATIONS WHILE DELIVERING OR PICKING UP CHILDREN. VIOLATORS WILL BE CITED.  College for Kids assumes no responsibility for citations due to parking on campus without a valid parking permit.

(DVC) IN AN EMERGENCY AND YOU WILL BE LATE IN PICKING UP YOUR CHILD, PLEASE CALL THE COLLEGE FOR KIDS OFFICE (925) 685-1093 OR THE CAMPUS POLICE AT (925) 685-1230, EXT. 2338.  Your child will be notified and will be waiting for you at Campus Police Service or the College for Kids Office.

(SRC)  Special directions will be mailed to students attending the NEW San Ramon Center on dropping off and picking up students.  It is important that these directions be observed.
