The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that mandates equal
opportunity for individuals with disabilities. The ADA prohibits discrimination in
access to jobs, public accommodations, government services, public transportation
and telecommunications. The Contra Costa Community College District (District) has
undertaken a comprehensive evaluation of its facilities to determine the extent to
which individuals with disabilities may be restricted in their access to District
services and activities.
This report describes the process developed to complete the physical evaluation of
District facilities: Contra Costa College, Diablo Valley College, Los Medanos College,
the Brentwood Center, the San Ramon Valley Campus and the District Office headquarters;
as well as present a Transition Plan Update for the modification of these facilities.
This document will guide the planning and implementation of facility modifications
over the next several years. The ADA Transition Plan Update is significant in that
it affirms the District's commitment to the development and maintenance of facilities
that include all of its student body, staff, and members of the public.
