Expanding your Horizons Conference 2009
The 3rd Annual Expanding Your Horizons Conference was hosted on the DVC- Pleasant Hill campus on Saturday, March 7, 2009. The conference consisted of 16 brilliant workshops presented by successful women to encourage middle school girls to explore careers in the Math and Science fields.
This year, over 150 students attended and the feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive. Based on the evaluations, the girls had an "awesome" time and said that the workshops were "cool", "interesting" and that they "rocked!" The girls enjoyed all the hands-on activities which allowed them to be creative and show their talents while learning something new about Math and Science.
A Parent Workshop was also available for the participants' parents to inform them about what to expect when their daughters attend college in a few years. We had 70 parents register for the workshop and about 50 parents in attendance. Some of the comments on the evaluation forms was that it was "very informative", "very useful", "excellent", and that the speakers were "sensational!" When asked whether they would recommend it to other parents, it was no surprise that majority said "yes!"
Overall, the event was a success and we would like to thank everyone in the DVC community who made this day possible. It is programs like this that make Diablo Valley College a real asset to the community we serve.
