HOW
TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT:
In Person: You can go to the Counseling
Center appointment desk, fill out a "Counseling Appointment Request" form
and give it to one of our staff members to help you find a time that will
work for you. By Phone: If you
need to schedule an appointment by phone, please call (925) 685-1230 ext. 2276
or 2278 after 2 pm. Some information that you will need to provide to make the
appointment will include student ID number, birth date, and
information about other colleges you might have attended. Appointments are
generally 30 minutes.
**TRANSCRIPTS:
Please make sure that your official transcripts arrive at the DVC
Admission/Records Office at least two weeks
prior to your appointment.
DROP-IN COUNSELING: Drop-in
counseling provides a way for you to see a counselor to get a quick answer
to a quick question--one that can be covered in 5 to 10 minutes.
Records from other colleges are not
available for this type of session. The drop-in schedule posted in the
Counseling Center for an up-to-date listing of available times.
GETTING STARTED:
NEW
STUDENTS
New students are those students that have
never attended college or have completed less than 12 units of college
work. If you have never attended DVC:
- Fill out an application to DVC and
turn it into the Admissions Office.
- Take the
Assessment Test
and sign up for COUNSELING
105 - ORIENTATION TO COLLEGE using the telephone or Web Advisor
Registration System. (If you choose not to attend Counseling 105, your
registration date will be significantly delayed and you will only be
able to meet with a counselor during open registration the week before
classes begin or when the new term begins.)
- Go to the Book
Center and purchase a Starter Kit. This contains the required
materials you will need for your first meeting of Counseling 105.
TRANSFER STUDENTS:
Fewer that 12 units from another college?
You will need to follow the NEW STUDENTS
admissions procedure.
More than 12 college units from another
college?
- Complete an application at the Admissions
Office.
- Have your official transcript(s) for
your previous college(s) mailed to Admissions
at least two weeks prior to your counseling appointment.
- If you did not take a math or English
course at your previous college, you may want to make an appointment
at the Assessment
Center so that you can have the results for your counseling
appointment.
- Make an appointment
with a counselor to go over an evaluation of your transcripts.
RETURNING STUDENTS
If you have not attended DVC for more
than 2 terms, you will need to fill out a new application at the ADMISSIONS
OFFICE. This application does not need to be on file to make an appointment
with a counselor.
