What can I do with an Accounting certificate?

Individuals with solid accounting skills are always in high demand. Some of the positions available to a graduate with an accounting certificate of achievement include:

–Staff or payroll accountant
–Government auditor
–Business manager
–Tax and financial advisor
–Financial/budget analyst
–Business owner

Because of the great variety of job opportunities, students with a certificate of achievement can expect to earn an entry-level hourly wage of $10 to $17 per hour. Experienced accountants can earn an annual salary of $50,000 or more depending on experience, geographical location, and the level and range of responsibility in the position.

Some accounting students build careers as accountants, while others use their education as a stepping-stone for starting a business, entering public service, or for pursuing middle and upper management positions.

Most or all of DVC’s accounting courses count toward the elective requirements for a two-year associate in arts or associate in science degree and are transferable to four-year universities. Courses may also be used for qualification to take the CPA exam.

How long will it take to earn a certificate?

It generally takes students 6-9 months to earn a certificate of completion (7.5 to 9.5 units) and/or a total of 18 to 24 months to earn the certificate of achievement (27.5 units). The length of time will depend on the number of units successfully completed each semester.
