Computer & Information Science

Computers have drastically changed the way we live our lives today and the way we look toward the future. The need for qualified people to develop and program these computer systems is here to stay. The Diablo Valley College computer and information science program prepares students for a variety of programming and information systems positions. This program is especially suitable for students who have four-year degrees.

As a computer information science student, you will gain an in-depth understanding of:

  • basic programming

  • problem solving

  • specific programming languages

  • data structure

  • computer organization

Students who have earned a certificate in computer and information science are prepared for entry-level employment as a computer programmer. Students without a baccalaureate degree may consider obtaining an associate in science degree at the same time to increase their employment opportunities. Most of the courses required by the certificate can be used as electives towards the A.S. degree.
