The Diablo Valley College music industry studies certificate program prepares students for a career in the commercial music and recording industries.
As a music industry studies student, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the music industry from the history of jazz and rock music to the most technologically up-to-date forms of electronic music through an introduction to synthesizers, computers and MIDI (musical instrument digital interface).
Students will learn about:
- music literature in an introduction and history of jazz and rock music,
- music production and multi-track recording for musicians,
- multi-timbral synthesizers and tone generators, digital signal processors and computer sequencing software,
- the music industry in an overview of corporate structure and legal practices including contracts, copyrights, licenses and royalties.
Students have the opportunity to choose their performance specialty and to take more advanced courses in either music production and recording, or in sound design, sequencing and synthesis.
