Albert Ponce, Ph.D.

Faculty - Political Science, Pleasant Hill Campus

Dr. Albert Ponce is Assistant Professor of Political Science and Co-Director of Social Justice Studies at Diablo Valley College where he mentors students in the PUENTE and UMOJA programs and is Co-Advisor for DVC Men of Color Association (MOCA) and ROOTS Social Justice Student Club.  He is also a member of the DVC Dreamers Alliance, which serves to support and build solidarity for undocumented students.  Professor Ponce earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science specializing in Race, Ethnicity and Politics and Political Theory at the University of California, Los Angeles.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Chicano Studies and Political Science with Distinction at University of California, Berkeley, where he was selected Ronald E. McNair Scholar.  Dr. Ponce is a product of the California Community College having obtained his Associate of Arts degree at Mount San Antonio College.  Professor Ponce seeks to advance his research, pedagogy and community engagements towards building transformative possibilities for our students and society.
