27) Religion, Symbols & Myths What do the sefirot of the kabbalistic Tree of Life and their symbolic references reveal to us about our own life journey? What is the message of the Gnostic Christ (Gospel of Thomas) and how does it relate to the essence of Zen Buddhism? How can some of the great saviors (Krishna, Jesus, Buddha, and Quetzalcoatl) and Sufi mystics like the poet Rumi help us to gain a deeper understanding of our true nature? 28) Five-minute Gourmet Meals A class especially planned for people who do not have the time to cook, but like to entertain. Learn where to buy and how to assemble the best ingredients so that you can surprise your family and friends with a deliciously prepared gourmet meal. Emphasis will be on the presentation of the dishes. Lots of samples to see and taste. Instructor: Lucia Falcone, born and raised in Murano, Italy, is a graduate of UC Berkeley. She has published her first book, Over Bridges Across Tables, a collection of short stories that celebrates small town life in Italy. 1 class - $25 ($22 EC members)
29) Streisand and Sinatra Barbara Streisand and Frank Sinatra are two of the greatest ballad singers of the 20th Century. They embody the craft of singing, the value and importance of the lyric, and the ability to engage the audience in a great performance. 30) Dreams Are you worried you may be losing your memory? Do you lose sleep over it? Do you dream and wonder what it means? Just what goes on in those mysterious hours of sleep? Can you learn to control your dreams? Most important of all, can you learn insights about your true self through dreams. Instructor: Karen Van Zino, MD, has practiced primary care medicine for 25 years. Her medical training at Stanford introduced her to the study of sleep, dreams, memory, and the unconscious. Her interest in this subject has grown over many years of patient care. 2 classes - $25 ($22 EC members)
31) Getting to Know Bulgaria Join us for an introduction to Bulgarian history, culture, and tradition. The Bulgars took control in 679 and ruled most of the Balkan Peninsula until 1396 when the Ottoman Empire invaded Bulgaria. Instructor: Katia Georgieva was born and raised in Bulgaria, moving to the US in 1997. She is a graduate of The Technical University of Sofia. 1 class - $15 (free to EC members)
32) A Midsummer Night’s Dream (play) This play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world. It portrays the adventures of four Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with the Duke and Duchess of Athens and with fairies who inhabit a moonlit forest.
