Engineering technology is the field of study that prepares students to aide and assist engineers, architects and contractors in a wide variety of areas including drafting and surveying. Diablo Valley College offers several different certificates of achievement in the area of engineering technology: computer aided drafting and design – CAD, civil drafting, mechanical drafting and land surveying.

As an engineering technology student you will gain an in-depth understanding of the many different areas of employment available under this broad category.

Students will learn a variety of skills, such as:

how to prepare, interpret and revise technical drawings using computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software,
how to do land surveying, evaluation and recording,
how to use geometric dimensioning and tolerancing according to ANSI standards,
how to develop technical drawings using geometric construction and descriptive geometry,
how to read and interpret maps and construction drawings,
basic machine processes.
