Engineering Technology

Engineering technology is the field of study that prepares students to aide and assist engineers, architects and contractors in a wide variety of areas including drafting and surveying.  Diablo Valley College offers several different certificates of achievement in the area of engineering technology: computer aided drafting and design – CAD, civil drafting, mechanical drafting and land surveying.

As an engineering technology student you will gain an in-depth understanding of the many different areas of employment available under this broad category.

Students will learn a variety of skills, such as:

  • how to prepare, interpret and revise technical drawings using computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software,

  • how to do land surveying, evaluation and recording,

  • how to use geometric dimensioning and tolerancing according to ANSI standards,

  • how to develop technical drawings using geometric construction and descriptive geometry,

  • how to read and interpret maps and construction drawings,

  • basic machine processes.
