| | English Tutoring in LC 105 OUR GOAL: To help
students become independent learners.
All DVC credit students are
eligible to receive two free hours of tutoring per week in reading,
writing, and study skills.
Our tutors can:

listen to your ideas
about writing assignments and help you limit or focus these into a
single topic

help you brainstorm your
topic to generate ideas and begin organizing those ideas
-
ask questions to help
you clarify and develop your ideas or reasoning.

show you proofreading
techniques so you learn to find and correct your own errors
-
give honest feedback
about papers -- how the tone or voice of the paper affects the reader,
whether the introduction arouses interest, whether the evidence is
convincing or if it still leaves questions or reservations, whether
the conclusion satisfies the reader, etc.

provide techniques to
help you approach reading assignments effectively

provide techniques for
improving your time management skills and improve your memory
-
provide over 200 handouts with
concise lessons on a wide range of English topics
Tutors cannot:
-
edit your paper or
fix your grammar errors
-
rewrite sentences for
you
-
discuss the grade
assigned to a paper by your instructor
-
predict the grade an
instructor will assign to a paper
-
provide essay topics or
specific ideas for topics
-
read your
textbook, essay, article, etc. for you
