Men's Basketball

2009 Review

The 2009-2010 Vikings could become an exciting team to follow for fans of DVC Men's Basketball.  As many as seven players on this year's roster have logged playing time during the last two seasons.  Returning All Big 8 guard Benji Arvizu, along with Honorable mention guard Dan Daviess are both returning starters.  Brandon Thomas and Tyler Phillips played significant minutes during the 2008-09 season off the bench.

Brandon May returns after redshirting last season.  May is considered one of the top players in Northern California after a strong 2007-08 season.  Matt Witzig and Jean-Phillip Jean add experience and depth to this year's team as returning sophomores.

newcomers Jordan Estrada (DeLaSalle) and Tyerelle Phillips (Monte Vista) should contribute significantly as Freshman.  Zack Payne (DeLaSalle) and Raheem Leaks (Berkeley) should also play key roles if the Vikings are to have a successful year.  Transfer Brian Castillo (Benicia) comes to DVC after playing at Cal St. Stanislaus last season.  Casitllo brings college experience and deadly shooting accuracy to this year's team.

"We are obviously a guard heavy team.  If we hold our own on the glass, we could be a good transition team.  I believe we could present some challenges with opponents trying to guard us with 3 or 4 guards on the floor at a time."
