The Diablo Valley Women's Basketball team is looking forward to the 2009-10 season in the Big 8 Conference. The team will need to fill the shoes of Vernessa Roberts. Vernessa finished the season as the second leading scorer, leading rebounder and was third in assists in the Big 8 Conference. She was selected on the All-Big 8 team. Vernessa is continuing her career on a basketball scholarship at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
The coaching staff will be looking to our sophomores for leadership. Two returning starters are: Ashley Hudson and Vanassa Johnson. Ashley was the third leading scorer in the Big 8 last season. Their leadership and improved play will be what is needed to help guide the team through the season. The addition of Jenny Kawakami from Northgate High School (2004) will be an added boost to the offense. Head Coach Maureen Mattson hopes that the incoming freshman will be able to step in and help with the success of the program.
