Dennis Luquet

Dennis Luquet enters his first season as an assistant coach of the Vikings, after serving as Head Coach for the baseball team last season.  Luquet was a very successful high school coach, guiding Deer Valley High School to the North Coast Section playoffs 14 out of15 seasons, earning the Contra Costa Times Coach of the Year in 1998.  Luquet never had a losing season, on his way to 269 wins and 123 losses.  In his 15 seasons at Deer Valley he won the 2003 North Coast Section Championship and was Bay Valley Athletic League Champions or Co-Champions in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2012.  During his tenure, Major League Baseball drafted 13 of his players, along with 19 that received scholarships to 4 year colleges. 

Luquet played two seasons of NCAA Division I Baseball at Northern Illinois University from 1976 to 1977.  He was voted two-time Most Valuable Player.  Luquet grew up in Concord, and attended Ygnacio Valley High School.  He played four seasons of varsity baseball, earning individual awards as a 3 year all-league infielder, 2 years All Contra Costa Times, and Most Valuable Player and All Northern California his senior season.  Luquet began his Viking career as a player for DVC "Hall of Fame" Coach Earnie Cecaci.  In January of 1975, Luquet was drafted in the 5th round by the Philadelphia Phillies.  Luquet was voted Most Valuable Player for the 1975 season by his teammates.  In 2000, he was selected to the Diablo Valley College Baseball All Half-Century Team as an infielder.  

Luquet began his coaching career in 1978 at Northern Illinois University, as an assistant to Walt Owens.  During his two years at N.I.U., Luquet coached hitting and infielders, along with coaching third base.  Luquet received his Bachelors of Science Degree in 1978 and his Masters of Science Degree in 1979.  Luquet then returned to Diablo Valley College in 1979, to coach football and baseball.  After one year at DVC, he took a teaching job in Dublin and a Varsity baseball head coaching position.  He then moved to Antioch to teach and coach J.V. baseball.  In 1990, Luquet became the head coach at Ygnacio Valley High School. He coached the Warriors for 5 seasons before moving on to Deer Valley High School.
