Online and Hybrid Course
Development

Diablo Valley College supports distance
education, providing support and training for our instructors in three significant ways:
- Offering Flex activities and Staff
Development Workshops during the Fall and Spring semesters
- Offering the annual Summer Technology
Institute held in the first week of June
- Providing continual campus upgrades,
innovations, and new technology for faculty (i.e., e-packs from book
publishers, new servers and more bandwidth for LAN and WAN activities, and
streaming audio and video)
We do this because of the continuing demand by
students for this type of course delivery. If you are interested in adding
technology into your on-ground classroom, then consider what many instructors
have already done:
- a WebCT Communication Suite: Email,
Discussion Boards, Chat, Whiteboard
- a WebCT Shell or Faculty Home Page in order
to list: documents like assignments, syllabus, weekly announcements.
- an E-pack: which contains a range of
supplemental material to nearly entire textbooks in html format for students
to access at anytime.
The inclusion of technology blurs the line
between a traditional on-ground classroom and an online or hybrid classroom
significantly and can prove to be a useful way to reinvent the teaching that you
already do. Neal Skapura
(nskapura@dvc.edu or ext. 2878) is available to assist you with conversions
of course content, discussions about online pedagogy, and working timelines (one-semester
prep is best); additionally, the following links serve as useful entry points
when preparing to teach an online or hybrid course or to develop ways
to include technology in your on-ground course:
