WebCT 6 Pilot Semester Project
To pilot WebCT 6.2, we sought a group of early adopters (faculty, staff, or managers) who will test it in the Spring 2008 semester. Beginning in Spring Flex, the Pilot group will receive training on WebCT 6.2 file management (uploading and organizing files), the Homepage, an overview of many new tabs and features, and training on mail and discussion tools. Throughout the semester, training and support will continue. The Pilot Project will end once the Spring 2008 semester is complete. WebCT 6.2 will then be available for all DVC employees who would like to use it. Functionally, WebCT 4.1 will be used in this project as well to create a single entry point for students and faculty. This is done because students and faculty will likely be in both versions and thus by using 4.1 with 6.2, faculty and students will see all of their classes.
Beginning in Spring 2008, we will pilot WebCT 6.2 in order to prepare to phase out our current version of WebCT 4.1, which DVC will no longer use as of the end of Spring 2009. The timeline below shows the different dates at which you can seek training and the month at which version 4.1 will no longer be available.
As of 5/29/09, we will archive WebCT 4.1 courses because WebCT will no longer be updating or supporting that version. Textbook publishers, who make epacks, will be following a similar transition schedule over the next two-three years, but each instructor should review this with his/her book rep. If the textbook publishers only provide WebCT 4.1 epacks, then there will be an extra conversion step necessary and this information will need to be communicated to our WebCT Admin, Jeanette Peavler, at webctadmin@dvc.edu.
