Library Cards

The DVC photo identification card, Connect Card, serves as the library card for students, faculty and staff. To obtain a Connect Card, show proof of registration for the current semester plus an official photo identification such as a California driver's license.  Separate barcoded library cards are issued to community residents who show proper identification and pay an annual fee.

The Collection

The DVC Library has a collection of approximately 90,000 books, 2500 ebooks, 400 periodical subscriptions, and 20 electronic databases that index and provide full-text articles from over 5000 journal titles. The Library at the San Ramon Valley Center has a small collection of reference, reserve and circulating materials as well as full access to the databases and ebooks.  San Ramon library patrons may also request books to be sent from the DVC Library.

ALICE includes information on the more than 90,000 books in the DVC Library and the films, videotapes and audiotapes in the Media Center. It also includes information on books at our SRC campus as well as our sister colleges, Los Medanos and Contra Costa College. ALICE is available on the Internet at:  http://alice.dvc.edu/search~s1

Magazines and Newspapers

The Library has subscriptions to approximately 400 magazines and 18 newspapers.  Staff at the Periodicals Desk provide assistance in locating magazine and newspaper issues and in use of the microform reader-printers. ALICE includes records for all the periodicals in the Library. Print and online indexes, located in the Reference Area, help you find magazine and newspaper articles on particular subjects.

Reserve

When books and other materials have been selected by faculty for required reading, copies are collected and placed "on reserve" at the Circulation and Reserve Desk. Materials on Reserve are listed in the online catalog, ALICE. The books are checked out for a limited time period determined by the instructor.
