Theresa
Bouret sent these comments:
"From the very first class I learned that I could combine my interest
in libraries with my love of the Internet. To fulfill the co-op ed requirement,
I applied for a part-time job as an instructional media assistant for
a local school district. I got the job and worked as an IMA while continuing
to take LIT courses, including the web publishing class where I created
my own web site. Having a student web page online, along with my cooperative
work experience with the school district and my almost-completed LIT certificate
helped me land a great job as a content editor for the library section
of a K-12 educational web site. Although that job ended two years later
(during the grand crash of the dot-coms), I have easily found more job
opportunities, working in libraries and on web sites. There seems to be
plenty of work available --in a variety of interesting jobs--for the LIT
grad in the Bay Area."
Suzanne
and Betty finished the LIT certificate program within a year of
one another. Betty found a job in the technical library of a large corporation
and Suzanne followed a year later.
Suzanne,
a former teacher and stay-at-home mom for many years, said:
"The LIT certificate provided me with the skills I needed to get
back into the work force after years at home. During the time I was taking
my LIT certificate courses I worked in the DVC library as a student assistant,
and I also completed my cooperative work experience there. Those experiences,
along with my LIT certificate, definitely helped me to get the job I have
now."
Betty,
also a former teacher, said:
"I found my job in the technical library as a direct result of the
LIT classes I took at DVC. As a matter of fact, a flyer advertising the
job was distributed in class one night. I applied and was hired soon after.
My part-time job gives me a chance to work and still have time for all
of my other activities."
