Policies and Procedures Borrowing BooksPresent your DVC Connect Card (the student ID card )and the books you wish to borrow at the Circulation and Reserve Desk. You may borrow up to 20 books with a maximum of 5 books at a time on any one subject. Circulating books may be checked out for three weeks; the loan period for reserve materials varies from a minimum of three hours to a maximum of one week; reference books, Special Collections and DVC Archives may only be used in the Library. Books can be borrowed on intercampus loan from the San Ramon Campus, Contra Costa College, and Los Medanos College. Through Interlibrary loan, the DVC library can borrow material from other libraries.Borrowing Magazines and NewspapersIndividual magazine and newspaper issues are available for use in the library. They may not be checked out.No Food, Drink, or SmokingBottled water is permitted, but because of the damage insects and spills cause to Library materials and the problems of maintenance and cleanliness, you are asked not to bring food, drink or animals (except aids to disabled persons) into the Library. There is no smoking or other use of tobacco anywhere in the building. See: Library Users' Rights and Responsibilities (pdf file).NoiseReading areas in the stacks and general reading rooms should be conducive to reading and serious study. Please respect the needs of your fellow students. There must be complete silence in the areas designated "SILENT USE". Use group study rooms for collaborative study. Please step outside to use cell phones.Overdue and Replacement ChargesBring overdue materials to the Circulation and Reserve Desk and pay overdue charges. Report lost materials immediately and pay for lost and damaged materials at the Circulation and Reserve Desk. Transcripts and registration privileges will be withheld pending clearance of Library obligations. The overdue charge for books, magazines and newspapers is 25 cents per day per item. Reserve item overdue charges vary from 50 cents per hour for three hour loan periods and 50 cents per day for one day, two day and one week loan periods.Renewing BooksBooks for which there are no "holds" may be renewed a maximum of two times, each renewal for a two week period. Books may be renewed from Alice, the library online catalog using My Account (learn more) or by telephone (925-685-1230, ext. 2441) The renewal request must be made on or before the due date.Returning BooksLibrary materials are not considered returned until they have been received by the Library. When the Library is open, return materials in one of the two Circulation Desk book drops. When the Library is closed, materials may be returned through the outside book deposit near the library elevator. |
