1. How can I contact my instructor?
On the search page, type in the instructor's last name as shown on your class schedule. (Disregard the "Department" field.) The results will tell you the telephone extension (most instructor's have voicemail) and email address.
Unless you know your instructor's preference, it is recommended that you leave both a telephone message and an email message for the instructor.
2. What are the dates of classes this semester?
4. Do I need to be in class on the first day of the semester?
It is the instructor's prerogative to automatically drop students who do not attend the first day of class. You must contact the instructor before the first day of instruction to find out whether you can remain enrolled in the class if you do not attend on the first day.
5. I need a certain class
this semester, but it was full when I tried to register. Is
there anything I can do?
Be sure to attend the first day of class. Instructor's have the prerogative to drop students who do not attend the first day and also to add new students.
6. How do I add a class on the first day?
Once the semester has begun, students are required to process an Add Card through Admissions & Records. NOTE: Hardcopy Add Cards are available from Admissions & Records. A printable Add Card is also available online.
7. How do I setup my DVC online
username and password so I can print the
Add Card and participate in other online services
provided by DVC?
Follow instructions given for the Web Advisor.
8. How do I process an Add Card?
After obtaining the instructor's signature, the Add Card must be taken to Admissions & Records by Friday of the second week of class. Contact Admissions & Records at 925/685-1310 or see the Admissions website for more information.
9. I have completed all the requirements for the Music Industry Studies Certificate. How do I apply for the actual Certificate?
Step #1: Print and complete the application for certificate form.
Step #2: Check DVC's Academic Calendar page for the allowable filing period for A.A. degrees or Certificates.
10. Is there a Music Degree at DVC?
DVC has a robust Music Major Transfer Program that has successfully prepared students for transfer to a variety of four-year institutions. An AA degree with a major in music is currently being developed. Following the current requirements for the Music Major Transfer Program is the best preparation for the implementation of a new Music Major at DVC.
11. I want to be a career musician. What careers are available in the field of music?
Step #1. Check out the careers page on the music department website.
Step #2. Discuss your career plans with a music instructor at DVC during an office hour.
Step #3. Meet with a DVC Counselor to discuss your career plans.
Step #4. Attend the department-wide meeting in M101 which is held on the first Friday of the semester. This is a mandatory meeting for all DVC music majors.
12. Is there a Music Library with sheet music and recordings?
The DVC Music Department does not have a lending library for any music materials. NOTE: If you have a library card within the Contra Costa Library system, you may access their catalog online.
