DVC speech and debate team brings 10 awards from state tournament

speech and debate tournamentThe DVC speech and debate team participated in the California Community College Forensics Association state tournament in March in Concord, and brought home 10 awards. Twenty seven community colleges from around the state participated.

Greg Kling won gold in Lincoln-Douglas style debate and a silver in Parliamentary style debate.

Alex Vuskovic won silver in Parliamentary-style debate and bronze in Lincoln-Douglas style debate.

Sasan Kasravi won silver in Lincoln-Douglas style debate, and Dan Leahy won bronze in Parliamentary style debate.

Michael Murray won two bronzes, one each in Parliamentary and Lincoln-Douglas style debate.  

Natalie Meany won a bronze trophy in poetry interpretation and another bronze in dramatic interpretation.

The team is coached by faculty members Becky Opsata and Patrick Moe.

“I am proud of the hard work and dedication of our team this year,” said Coach Opsata. “Our strong showing at State was a fitting end to a very successful season.”
