Enrolling &
Registering
New, transfer, and returning students
should start at step #1
If you are a new DVC student, are transferring from another college, or
attended DVC in the past, and have not completed 12 units, please follow these
steps to make your enrollment process easier. If you have questions,
contact the Admissions and Records Office.
High School Students
If you are currently in high school,
please review the High School
Procedures information.
Continuing students start at step #4
If you were enrolled at DVC during the last term, you are a continuing
student and you don't need to submit an application. You will
automatically be assigned a registration date. Check on Web Advisor
to obtain your registration date and time. For assistance with using
Web Advisor, go to the
Web Advisor Tutorial.
Step #1 APPLICATION
Complete the
online application for enrollment or pick one up at the Admissions
Office.
Step #2 ASSESSMENT
In assessment, your math and English skills are tested and the results,
along with your previous grades, job experience and confidence level,
help determine a recommendation about the appropriate level of DVC
English and mathematics courses in which you are most likely to succeed.
For more information about assessment, please review the Assessment
Center's
Frequently Asked Questions and consider a counseling appointment.
Step #3 ORIENTATION
You should register for Counseling 105 (you can take this online too). This course gives you an overview
of programs, financial aid, and support services available at DVC. In
the class, you will
work with a counselor to select an educational goal, prepare your schedule
and develop your educational plan. When you complete Counseling 105 before
courses start, you will receive priority registration your first term. If
you choose not to complete this process before classes start, you will not
be able to register until the first day of open registration.
Step #4 SELECTING COURSES
You should meet with a DVC counselor on a regular basis. Once you've
met with a counselor, you should have a good idea of which courses you need
to take for your degree, certificate, or to transfer to another college or
university. More information can be found about DVC courses in the
catalog, available at the Book Center or on the website. You should select courses which will advance your college goals.
Step #5 REGISTERING FOR COURSES
Once you have chosen your ideal course schedule for the term, it is a
good idea to have a backup plan in case some of the courses you want are
filled. Be prepared to be flexible. Register for your courses online using
Web Advisor. For instructions on using our system click on the Web
Advisor Tutorial link above.
Step #6 FEES
Fees can be paid by check, cash, or credit card at the time of
registration. Students registering by phone or online may use a Visa or Mastercard
to pay fees. For more information on fees, see the section later in this
booklet.
