INTERIM ADMINISTRATIVE ASSIGNMENTS

We are currently working our way through the many personnel changes occurring in our organizational structure as a result of the downsizing imposed upon us by the lack of state funds. Here is the disposition of administrative positions, which will remain in interim status for the 2010-11 year.

Interim Vice President of Student Services position will be extended July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011 with the current incumbent, Donna Floyd.

Interim Senior Dean of Curriculum and Instruction and Accreditation Liaison Officer position will be extended July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011 with the current incumbent, Ted Wieden.

The following three positions will be interim assignments with internal recruitments to commence as soon as possible. All interim administrative assignments will run from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

Dean of Biological and Health Sciences / Physical Sciences and Engineering originally held by Dennis Smith (retiring June 30, 2010) will be an interim assignment. The committee will be composed of 4 faculty (representative of the divisions being served), 2 classified (representative of the two divisions), 2 administrators, and 2 students. If there are less than 7 applicants, I will chair the committee, and we will all interview the candidate pool together. This process has been used over the past 3 years and it has worked well to move expeditiously the personnel recruitment and decisions concerning interim assignments.

There will be a reassignment involving two divisions. We will hire an Interim Dean who will be responsible for the English / Social Sciences divisions. The committee will be composed of 4 faculty (representative of the divisions being served), 2 classified (representative of the two divisions), 2 administrators, and 2 students. If there are less than 7 applicants, I will chair the committee and we will all interview the candidate pool together.

The Business Division with Culinary Arts will be reassigned to the Dean of Math and Computer Science, Rachel Westlake. She will become the Dean of Math and Computer Science / Business. This assignment will be effective July 1st.

With the elimination of tutoring as an assignment area for the Dean of Library and Learning Resources held by Ann Patterson (retiring June 30, 2010), we are reclassifying this position to Director of Library and will be filling that with an interim assignment. This position will report to the Interim Sr. Dean of Curriculum and Instruction. The committee will be composed of 2 faculty, 2 classified 2 administrators, and 2 students. If there are less than 7 applicants, I will chair the committee and we will all interview the candidate pool together.
