If you have completed either English 116 or 118 and passed with a "C" or higher then you will only need to take a portion of the English Assessment test. For example, if you completed English 116 then you have already met the Reading Comprehension prerequisite so you will only need to take the Writing section of the test. The opposite is also true; if you completed English 118 then you have already met the Writing prerequisite so you will only need to take the Reading Comprehension section of the test.
DVC English Assessment Re-test
If you have taken the English assessment test previously at DVC and you placed into English 122 on either the Reading Comprehension or the Writing portion of the test on your first attempt, then you would only need to re-take the portion in which you didn't place into English 122.
Tests taken at other schools
If you have taken a placement test at another California Community College within the last two years you can use those scores for placement into DVC classes. Bring in a copy of your official score report to the Assessment Center, or have the school fax it to us directly to be evaluated. We do not accept scores from UCs, CSUs, private or out-of-state schools.
Tests taken at Los Medanos College or Contra Costa College
If you took your placement test at either LMC or CCC within the last two years we can look up your scores and translate them for you. Send us an email with your full name and student ID number and your request, or just drop by the center with your photo ID. Your scores will be available on WebAdvisor within 1 business day.
Classes taken at other schools
If you believe that you have taken a class at another institution that would satisfy a prerequisite please forward your transcripts and a completed Prerequisite Form to the Admissions and Records Office.
If you took the English Literature or Language Advanced Placement (AP) exam and scored a three or higher you may submit your scores and a completed Prerequisite Form to the Admissions office in lieu of taking the English assessment test.
If you took the Calculus AB or BC Advanced Placement (AP) exam you may submit your scores and a completed Prerequisite Form to the Admissions and Records Office for evaluation to determine if you are exempt from taking the College Level Math test.
If you took the Early Assessment Program (EAP) portion on your STAR test and received "CSU Ready" on your math and/or English portion, then you do not need to take the math and/or English assessment test. Just bring in your test results to the Assessment Center for evaluation. If a student received a "CSU Ready - Conditional for English" and has completed an ERWC course in their senior year of high school then we would be able to accept their scores. We do not accept math conditional scores. Results are valid for a year following graduation from high school. To find your scores visit www.csumathsuccess.org/eap_results (for both math and English), print a copy, write your DVC Student ID # at the top of the page, and bring it to the Assessment Center.
High School Math Classes
If you completed Algebra II or higher in high school and received a grade of "C" or higher for the year you may submit your transcripts and a completed Prerequisite Form to the Admissions and Records Office. At that time they will determine whether your course work can be used for placement into DVC classes.
