Electronics, alternate energy, electricity, computer technical support, and computer networking - degrees and certificates

Electronics
Electronics work is filled with the satisfaction reward that comes with meeting challenges and solving problems. There is a great opportunity for specialization in the many different specific fields such as aviation, medicine or business.

After a student has earned a certificate of achievement in electronics, he or she should be well prepared to go directly into entry-level employment in the electronics field as an:

  • Electronics tester
  • Electronics engineering technician
  • Electronics sales and service technician,
  • Appliance service technician,
  • Electronics technician specialist (e.g., medical,

  • communications, electronic consumer product),
  • Telecommunication technician,
  • Manufacturing and production technicians,
  • Electronics products and development technician,
  • Computer and office machine service technician,
  • Electrical and electronics engineer.

Selected electronics courses may meet requirements for four-year programs in engineering technology and industrial technology at certain California State University campuses and private technical colleges. Electronics department faculty and college counselors work with students to achieve these goals.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, salaries range from $28,000 to $30,000 for entry level, $40,000 to 50,000 after five years and $60,000 and up after 15 years in the field.

How long will it take to earn a certificate?
Generally, students take 30 months to complete the courses required for the certificate as they are taught in sequence and each class is not repeated every semester.
