What can I do with an electronics certificate/degree?

After a student has earned a certificate of achievement in electronics, he or she should be well prepared to go directly into entry-level employment in the electronics field as an:

  • Electronics tester
  • Electronics engineering technician
  • Electronics sales and service technician
  • Appliance service technician
  • Electronics technician specialist (e.g., medical, industrial, radio and TV broadcast, automotive, communications, electronic consumer product),
  • Telecommunication technician,
  • Manufacturing and production technician,
  • Electronics products and development technician,
  • Computer and office machine service technician.

Selected electronics courses may meet requirements for four-year programs in engineering technology and industrial technology at certain California State University campuses and private technical colleges. Electronics department faculty and college counselors work with students to achieve these goals.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, salaries range from $28,000 to $30,000 for entry level, $40,000 - $50,000 after five years and $60,000 and up after 15 years in the field.

When are classes offered?

Electronic courses are taught in the evenings.

How long will it take to earn a certificate/degree?

Generally, students take 30 months to complete the courses required for the certificate as they are taught in sequence and each course is not offered every semester. Degree requirements can generally be completed in two years of full-time study.
