What can I do with a photovoltaic systems certificate?
This program prepares students for jobs installing, designing, servicing and maintaining photovoltaic systems. Students from this program will be able to work with residential, commercial and industrial size photovoltaic systems. Many of the skills learned in these courses relate to solar thermal systems as well.
For students with no previous education or experience in the building fields, upon completion of the certificate of achievement/associate degree requirements in photovoltaic systems, you will be prepared for entry level jobs as photovoltaic systems installers, designers, and sales people, with salaries starting at about $15 per hour.
Many who enter this program already work in construction, engineering or other similar professions. Their employment options will be greater, and salaries may range from $90,000 to $150,000.
When are classes offered?
Classes are offered each term in the evening and on weekends, with one class offered during the summer.
How long will it take to earn a certificate?
Generally, it will take students three to four semesters to complete all the courses required for the certificate of achievement, plus additional time to complete all the general education requirements if you wish to earn an Associate in Science degree.
While this program is not designed as a transfer program, selected courses may meet some of the lower division requirements for Bachelor of Science degree programs in engineering technology and industrial technology at certain California State University campuses and private technical colleges. Consult with electronics department faculty and college counselors for more information.
How do I enroll in the program?
You may begin the program by taking one of the courses. There are many entry points with no prerequisites: just start with CONST 110, ELECT 120, AET 130, or CONST 114.
