More than a DREAM Conference

More than a dream conferenceIn partnership with United Latino Voices, Contra Costa College, and Los Medanos College, Diablo Valley College is proud to host the 4th Annual AB-540 "More than a Dream: Get the Facts" Conference on Saturday, April 5th from 8:30 am to 2 pm.  High school and community college students, parents, and allies from throughout Contra Costa County are invited to attend.

65,000 undocumented students graduate from high school across the United States each year and only 7,000-13,000 of these students enroll in colleges or universities.  The State of California represents 25% of all undocumented immigrants nationwide and it is estimated that 553,000 undocumented youth are potentially eligible for the recently passed California DREAM Act.

"More than a DREAM: Get the Facts!" is a FREE conference.  The goal of the conference is to increase enrollment and retention rates of undocumented students in higher education by providing community members with information regarding available resources to AB-540 and undocumented students.

The conference includes free continental breakfast and lunch, a welcome from the college and district, a keynote address from activist and author Cesar Cruz, co-founder of the Homies Empowerment Program, an undocumented student panel, a community and college resource fair as well as two breakout sessions addressing the following themes:

  • College Information and Resources
  • Legal Information and Services
  • Personal Motivation
  • Parent and Community Resources
