Planning, Research and Student Outcomes

Mission

Welcome to the Office of Planning, Research, and Student Outcomes at Diablo Valley College. The mission of this office is to enhance institutional effectiveness in support of student learning, quality teaching, and services. This Office provides data and statistical analysis for college decision making and coordinates the college's strategic planning and assessment of student learning outcomes. Working closely with administrators, staff, and faculty across the college, we conduct research on current policy issues regarding students, faculty, staff, and resources. In addition, the office team publishes the DVC Fact Book, which provides detailed information about the college, its community, and its resources.

The Office of Planning, Research and Student Outcomes, which reports to the college president, is responsible for the following:

  • Facilitates the strategic planning process in consultation with the college's Planning Council
  • Maintains a repository of information and publishes reports in both electronic and print formats to describe various aspects of the college
  • Facilitates institutional accreditation, assessment of student learning outcomes, and review of programs and services
  • Conducts and assists in developing research studies to support policy decisions and to enhance the effectiveness of the college in reaching its mission
  • Administers surveys of students and staff to assess their satisfaction with programs and services offered by the college
  • Validates Assessment Office course placement tests
  • Conducts external scans to keep abreast of emerging knowledge that affects education
