Student organizations

Student government, clubs, and activities at Diablo Valley College (DVC) are student initiated and run.  Involvement in student organizations and activities provides opportunities to develop valuable leadership and interpersonal skills that will benefit the student while at DVC, as well as in the future. Students learn to organize and to work with others, pursue special interests, and make friends.

The Associated Students of Diablo Valley College (ASDVC) is the student government at DVC http://www.asdvc.org/index.html.  The ASDVC is responsible for advocating for and representing students' perspectives on College and District committees, councils and task forces.  Students who are interested in joining the ASDVC must meet the requirements, which include:

  • completing the petition process within the first 21 days of the semester;
  • having and maintaining at least 5 units at DVC;
  • be free from academic/disciplinary probation;
  • having and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA;
  • be able to attend the weekly ASDVC meetings every Tuesday from 2-4 PM;
  • participating in at least one College/District or ASDVC committee;
  • attending an Information Session;
  • participating in the ASDVC Board retreat each semester.

 

There are a variety of student clubs at DVC including those that focus on academics/careers; culture/diversity; recreation/sport; religion/spirituality; honor societies; and special interest topics.  Students who want to start a new club must:

  • Attend a "How to Start a New Club" workshop, where they will receive a student organization handbook; [link to schedule]
  • Have at least 6 currently registered DVC students as members;
  • Officers must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and 5 units;
  • Have an advisor who is a DVC employee (must complete Advisor Orientation);
  • Submit a completed "Application for Campus Club" by the deadline; and
  • Submit a Constitution.

 

Students who want to reactivate a returning club must:

  • Submit a completed "Club Status Update" form by the deadline;
  • Have at least 6 currently registered DVC students as members;
  • Officers must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and 5 units; and
  • Have an advisor who is a DVC employee (must complete Advisor Orientation).

 

All clubs must have a representative attend the Inter-Club Council (ICC) meetings, which are held on Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 pm in the Student Union Conference Room. For more information about the ICC, see http://www.dvcicc.org.
