A S D V C Club Day Get involved and make the most of your college experience!  Join the Associated Students of Diablo Valley College (ASDVC), the student government  at DVC!

Enhance your success with free College Success Workshops and Brown Bag Lecture series.  No need to register, just show up for the topic which is of interest to you.

Starting a new club
Beginning spring 2009, any student who wants to start a new club must attend a mandatory "Starting a New Club" workshop. Students will learn about the requirements and deadlines for starting a club, and receive a copy of the Student Organization Handbook and all of the forms that are required. The workshops will be held during the first four weeks of the semester, beginning January 20 and ending February 10.

Find a schedule of the workshop times on the Events Calendar  or pick up a flier in the Student Union Building or at the Learning Commons on the San Ramon Campus.

Application deadline is Thursday, February 12 at 6:45 p.m. The packet should be turned into the Student Activities Coordinator in the Student Life Office, or to Yvonne Canada in West-132 on the San Ramon Campus.

Returning clubs
All returning clubs must complete a "Club Status Update" form, which indicates that your club will be renewed for the current semester. For spring 2009, the deadline for submitting the Club Status Update form is Thursday, January 29 at 6:45 p.m. The application should be turned in to the Student Activities Coordinator in the Student Life Office, or to Yvonne Canada in West-132 on the San Ramon Campus.
 
Club Day
The first Club Day will be Tuesday, February 10 and Wednesday, February 11 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Quad.

San Ramon Campus Blood drive
January 26 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. the American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive in the main lot (in front of the fountain).  Appointments will be scheduled in the Learning Commons January 20-23 and walk-ins are welcome!

New!  January 24, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., SRC Admissions Office and Bookstore will be open to assist students.  Please stop by!

Brown Bag Workshop
Join us for our first Brown Bag Workshop, "Healthy New Year," Wednesday, January 28 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in West 204.  A health educator from Kaiser will present.  Bring your lunch - no registration is required!
DVC Scholarship Office
Scholarship Office The Scholarship office has moved!
In our efforts to better serve DVC students, the Scholarship office is now in the Student Services Center.  Get information on the DVC scholarship program and learn about additional scholarship opportunities provided by outside organizations.  Office hours are Monday - Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
 
And remember...
the DVC Scholarship application deadline is Monday, February 2, 2009 at 12 noon.
Transfer Center
Have you applied to transfer to a four-year school?  If so, now's it's time to apply for funds!   Visit the Financial Aid Office for more information.

Upcoming transfer deadlines
   ·   The deadline for submitting your Fall 2009 UC Application Update is Saturday, January 31, 2009. (Visit universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/after_apply/after_update_transf.html)

   ·   Fall 2009 Berkeley applicants must also complete supplemental forms by Saturday, January 31, 2009. These forms are available via the student portal, myBerkeleyApplication, at: admissions.berkeley.edu

   ·   San Francisco State has changed their deadline for fall 2009 applications from March 2nd to February 2, 2009.

Deadline for completion of Liberal Arts A.A. degree
Students completing A.A. degree requirements with the major of Liberal Arts, a program which was deleted from the DVC catalog in 2004, are advised that they must satisfy all requirements by the close of summer 2009, due to State regulations.  Students unable to do so will have to select another major to complete their degree, and may see a counselor for assistance.

Business Division
DVC's Business Division has developed its spring line-up of workshops for small business owners. The Business Boosters are offered monthly on a Thursday morning, 7:30-9:30 a.m. They provide hands-on tips from the experts that small business owners can begin to use immediately. For a listing of Business Boosters and information about how to register, click here.  Mention that you learned about Business Boosters from the email blast and get $10 off of the registration fee.

It was recommended in Oprah Magazine and now it is coming to DVC.  Melodie Lane of The One Page Business Plan Company will be presenting a workshop, "Come with an idea-Leave with a Plan!" sponsored by DVC's Business Division on January 22.  For more information, click here.
Tutoring Services
DVC has 10 tutoring centers available around campus that offer FREE tutoring in a multitude of subjects, including all levels of math, English, foreign languages, business accounting, liberal arts, and physical, life and social sciences. Contact the Tutoring Center at 925-685-1230 x2125 to make an appointment or visit our website at www.dvc.edu/tutoringservices in order to find out each tutoring lab's location and hours.  You can also visit us in person at L-102, the first floor of the Library, to make an appointment or drop in for free tutoring.

Get ready for Recycle Mania 2009!
Recycle Mania logo Recycle Mania is a nationwide recycling competition for college and universities. From January 19 through March 28, we will be competing against over 200 schools across the nation to collect the most recycling. In 2008 we placed 163rd out of 180 schools. We can do better than that! Make sure to recycle all your cans, bottles and paper in the brown recycling carts across campus. Let's show the world how green we can be!
