What is the waitlist?
The waitlist is a way to prioritize the enrollment of students after a class has reached its maximum. There are no guarantees that you will be enrolled from the waitlist; therefore, it is always best to enroll in a class with open seats. If you are on a waitlist, you must attend the first class meeting to be considered to add the class.
How do I get on a waitlist?
If the class is closed and has a waitlist (not all classes have waitlists,) you will be asked when you register on WebAdvisor if you want to add your name to the waitlist. WebAdvisor will let you know that the course is full and will allow you to add to a waitlist; however, it does not tell you your ranking on the waitlist (See numbers 8 and 9 below.)
What happens when the waitlist is full?
If both the class and waitlist are full, you should look for another section to add. If students drop the class, there may be waitlist seats available. You can review the enrollment of a class and the waitlist availability on WebAdvisor (search for classes).
Can I place my name on the waitlist if I don’t meet the prerequisite?
Adding your name to a waitlist is like enrolling in the course. All registration rules are enforced (except time conflicts) at the time you place your name on the waitlist; therefore,if you do not meet the prerequisite, you cannot place your name on the waitlist.
What if the class doesn’t have a waitlist?
Not all classes have waitlists. If the class is closed and does not have a waitlist, you should look for an open section.
Why am I being blocked from placing my name on the waitlist?
WebAdvisor checks all registration conditions before your name is placed on the waitlist (it does not check for time conflicts. Time conflicts are verified after you have received permission to enroll in the course at the time of enrollment.) If you have a hold, a debt, are dismissed, do not meet the prerequisite, have already taken the course (repeatability issues), or it is before your date and time to register, you will not be allowed to place your name on the waitlist.
Can I put my name on the waitlist for my first choice class and enroll in another section of the same course as a backup?
No. You are only allowed to be registered or on the waitlist for one section of any given course. You can however, add your name to the waitlist of other courses.
How do I know what number I am on the waitlist?
You can go to WebAdvisor and select “manage my waitlist” to view your rank on the waitlist. This number changes as students drop the class; therefore, it is important to review this screen on a regular basis. This feature is only available on WebAdvisor.
Who can I call to obtain my waitlist status?
This information is available to all students on WebAdvisor on the “manage my waitlist” screen. Students can review their waitlist status, remove their name from a waitlist, or determine what number they are on a waitlist using this screen. This feature is only available on WebAdvisor.
How do I get registered in the class from the waitlist?
You will be given permission to register when you are first on the waitlist and a student drops from the regular course. An email will be sent to you when permission to register is granted. You can obtain your waitlist status and register for the course on WebAdvisor. We recommend that you review the “manage my waitlist” page on WebAdvisor daily to check your status as there may be instances when the email message does not get delivered due to limitations on your email box, etc. Once you are given permission, you will have 5 calendar days to register (or less if permission is granted less than 5 days before the section starts.) If you do not register within the allotted time, your name is dropped from the waitlist.
NOTE: If the course is about to begin and you have not been granted permission to register, you may want to consider removing your name from the waitlist and enrolling in an open section since there are no guarantees you will be added to the class. If you choose to remain on the waitlist, you must attend the first class meeting to be considered to add the class.
How do I receive notification I can enroll?
When you are granted permissions, an email will be sent to your InSite email account. An email notification will be sent to the personal email account on file in Admissions and Records notifying you of the InSite mail waiting for you. Please make sure to keep your email updated. We recommend that you check your email often when you are on waitlists.
What if I don’t have an email address?
All students are provided a student email account - InSite Mail. Email notifications are sent to the InSite email address when permission is granted to register. You can also review your waitlist status at any time on WebAdvisor.
What if I don’t have a computer?
WebAdvisor can be accessed from any computer. There are computers with internet access at all public libraries, at the DVC Library, and in the many computer labs on campus as well as in the Enrollment Lab adjacent to the Welcome Center.
What if I don’t want to be on the waitlist anymore?
The “manage my waitlist” option on WebAdvisor allows students to remove themselves from the waitlist.
How much time do I have to enroll in the course from the waitlist once I have received permission to enroll?
You have 5 calendar days to enroll in the course once permission is granted (or less if permission is granted less than 5 days before the section starts.)
What if I don’t enroll within the established timeline?
If you do not enroll within the allotted time, you are dropped off the waitlist. It is important to monitor your waitlist status on WebAdvisor. Email notifications are sent to your InSite email account when permission is granted to register.
How many waitlists can I sign up for?
You can place your name on as many waitlists as you want as long as they are for different courses. Students are only allowed to be on the waitlist or enrolled in one section of any given course.
