Survey of American Literature

Spring 2010: English 263, Monday and Wednesday, 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in LA-107 Learn about the literature, history, art, and culture of the United States, from Walt Whitman’s celebration of America’s expansiveness in Leaves of Grass to Toni Morrison’s psychological, magical realist exploration of being a black man in 1950’s America in Song of Solomon. What does it mean to be an American? American poets, prose writers, and dramatists have long grappled with this question through their innovative work, reflecting the social and artistic movements of the times, including Realism, Modernism, the Civil Rights movement, and the flourishing of diverse and experimental voices.


Shakespeare and His World

Shakespeare is better, funnier, and wilder than you think! Give the old bard a chance and spend a few hours a week laughing, playacting, and fomenting intense discussions about life, love, and literature. Recite some of the most beautiful poetry written in the English language. Plus, learn to curse in Shakespearean with “botcher’s ’prentice” and “prating mountebank.”  Enroll in English 154-2698 and meet transfer requirements for GE and IGETC. Come to BFL-105, Tuesday and Thursday, 12:30–1:45 p.m.

Getting fit on your schedule!

Workout when you want.  DVC has made the Weight Room (PE-101) into a Fitness Center that allows you to “workout” when you want.  Earn up to 2.0 units.


Introduction to Engineering is for you!

Are you a creative problem-solver?  Do you like teamwork?  ENGIN-110 is an introduction to different engineering disciplines and careers.  It is a transfer course to UC and CSU campuses and is a campus-wide GE course for UC Berkeley.  Currently offered on an online format.


French conversation and culture

Parlez-vous français?  Mais oui!  What is the oldest royal square in Paris?  Where is the best place to watch a sunset in Paris?  Learn the answer to these questions and many more while sharpening your conversational skills.  Take beginning and intermediate conversational French 155, 156, 157.  Learn more.


Fundamentals of Physical Science

Trying to decide on a science class?  Why not take a sampler course?  Physical Science 112 (PHYSC-112) includes four different sciences:

Earth Science Astronomy
Chemistry Physics

After sampling the subjects, you can delve further into whichever science you liked best.
