| This course will focus on representative works from the four major genres of literature (poetry, drama, the short story, and the novel). This course will teach students to recognize the distinguishing elements of each literary form and develop competency in the methods used to analyze all literature. The choice of texts will reflect the historical development of these genres in order to enhance students' appreciation of the extent to which imaginative literature reflects its historical moment and is shaped by expressive and visual arts of the time.
