| Survey of major literary works produced by American writers from approximately 1865 to the present. Students read poetry, fiction, and drama by American poets, prose writers, and playwrights. Changes in literary style are closely examined and compared with corresponding changes in other art forms-painting, music, sculpture, architecture, and film-produced in America and abroad during the period.
