Job description
I. General expectations (recruitment and outreach)
- Provide general information about opportunities at DVC.
- Explain the benefits of attending DVC.
- Participate in workshops and presentations.
- Lead campus tours for future students and other campus guests.
- Assist with assessment process.
- Provide assistance with electronic marketing activities such as DVC MySpace, Facebook and other social networking sites.
- Collaborate with other Student Ambassadors to accomplish identified goals.
II. School relations
- Develop connections with counselors, teachers and/or student leaders within assigned high schools.
- Attend college nights and career fairs hosted by assigned high schools; provide information to
students, parents and teachers regarding opportunities at DVC.
- Provide information to students regarding application and registration processes.
- Prepare regular reports after high school visits.
- Serve as a role model by following all standards of conduct at DVC and assigned high schools.
III. Event coordination and assistance
- Attend events both on campus and in the community, including but not limited to high school senior
days, DVC open houses, road shows, conferences and other special events.
- Provide a broad range of assistance for events such as mailings, taking RSVPs, preparing materials,
communicating with DVC staff, setting up, cleaning up, and evaluating events.
IV. Additional duties
- Regularly respond to email and telephone inquiries.
- Staff campus information tables as needed.
- Attend all required training sessions, in-service workshops and team meetings.
- Assist Information Center staff during peak enrollment times (answering phones,
providing assistance to walk-in students, etc.) as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by Outreach/Relations with Schools Manager.

Position requirements
Student Ambassadors must:
- be enrolled at least half-time (6 units) at Diablo Valley College;
- be in good academic standing;
- commit to two semesters of the Student Ambassador program;
- attend and complete training program, including orientation and on-going workshops;
- attend Student Ambassador team meetings – meetings will be set based on the team’s class schedules;
- arrange for individual meetings with supervisor for regular performance review as requested;
- establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others by displaying a
positive attitude at events and meetings;
- communicate effectively with a diverse group of people both verbally and in writing;
- demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,
ability, gender, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of our campus/community demographics;
- represent DVC through professional conduct and interpretations and applications of
institutional policies, rules, and regulations;
- have the ability to work both in a team and independently;
- be aware of confidentiality issues and the importance of protecting sensitive information;
- be able to independently travel to high school and community events.

Selection / hiring process
Applicants must:
- Complete the application;
- Submit a letter that explains your interest in the position and why you are a good candidate;
- Obtain two references, at least one must be from DVC faculty or staff;
- Prepare for an interview with a screening committee, if selected as a finalist. (Applicants
will be notified once their application is reviewed if invited for an interview.)
We will select talented and enthusiastic Student Ambassadors who reflect
the demographics of our rapidly changing, diverse community. Student Ambassadors will work 8-10 hours each
week and will be paid at a rate of $8 per hour. Attendance at orientation training sessions is required.
All training sessions are paid at the regular hourly rate
