High School Concurrent Enrollment - Forms and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The concurrent enrollment process for high school students at Diablo Valley College allows students to take courses while they are still in high school.  Concurrent enrollment is a great way for high school students to get ahead in their studies, and the process is simple.

Forms Needed: Students simply complete a DVC Admissions Application  and a Concurrent High School Enrollment Recommendation Form, then register and pay for classes.  The enrollment fee is $1 per unit.

Some questions you may be asking:

How do I know if my high school will allow me to concurrently enroll at DVC?

Most local high schools are currently participating.  Check with your high school counselor to be sure.

How can I concurrently enroll?  

A signed Concurrent Enrollment/Admissions Application Form, must be submitted along with the appropriate enrollment fees to the DVC Admissions Office before you are enrolled in the courses.

Do I need special consent or counseling before I can concurrently enroll?  

Yes, you will need both special consent and high school counseling.  Your parents/guardians must give their consent and you must consult your high school counselor regarding the rules and regulations required by DVC.   Additionally, your high school’s principal must review and sign your Concurrent Enrollment/ Application for Admissions Form.

I want to transfer to a University of California (UC) campus after DVC.  Can I receive college credit for both a college course and the Advance Placement (AP) Exam in the same subject?

No. Students planning to go onto a UC campus and taking, or planning to take, AP exams in high school should not take a college course in the same subject.  Students cannot receive college credit for both the college course and the AP Exam in the same subject.

What happens if I don’t complete one of my college courses?

Academic progress/probation could occur if you do not satisfactorily complete courses at DVC.  Be sure to discuss with your high school counselor the rules and regulations required at DVC, as this will be the beginning of your college record.

What if I have to drop one of my concurrently enrolled courses?

If you must withdraw from a course, you must do so before the deadline date to drop.

Is there a limit on how many units I can be concurrently enroll in per semester?

As a high school student, the maximum number of units you can concurrently enroll in per semester is 9.

Can I sign up for courses year round?

Yes. You may concurrently enroll during the Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions. Please remember that each new session requires a new Concurrent Enrollment/Application for Admissions Form.

What happens if I don’t complete, or get a bad grade in one of my concurrently enrolled courses?

You must maintain regular attendance and passing grades in all of your college courses.  Remember that concurrent enrollment marks the beginning of your permanent college record.
