Class bundles are 12-unit (full-time) schedule recommendations. You can choose from eight different bundles that span a range of Interest Areas.

These are helpful if you want:

• primarily on campus classes that meet CSU and UC transfer requirements
• no class scheduling conflicts with plenty of time for breaks for lunch and/or tutoring
• to complete your math and English requirements in your first term/year
• eligibility for our full-time, free tuition program

How can I become a tutor?

We are currently accepting tutor applications via Handshake, DVC's online job board. View the tutor application by selecting "Diablo Valley College" from the drop-down menu under "Students & Alumni" and using your InSite username and password to sign on. You will need:

• a cover letter explaining why you want to tutor
• an unofficial transcript
• your availability schedule
• proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption
• an instructor's recommendation in the area(s) you are applying

Why be a tutor?

• Tutoring is challenging, rewarding, and fun for both tutor and tutee.
• Tutoring is an excellent way for students to gain experience and insight, especially if you are considering teaching as a career.
• Tutoring experience is valuable for scholarship, college, and job applications as well as résumés.
• Tutoring is a useful tool to gain in-depth knowledge in a variety of subject matters.
• Tutoring gives you a rare opportunity to experience the dynamics of teamwork and thus contribute to the growth of the DVC campus community.
• Trained tutors are paid for their time tutoring.
• Employment as a tutor satisfies work-study and CalWORKs employment requirements.

How to qualify for a tutor position:

1. Earn a 'B' grade or better in the class you want to tutor.
2. Receive a recommendation from the instructor of each class you want to tutor.
3. Enroll in a Tutor Training Class (MATH 140, ENGL 140, INTD 140, or Center-provided workshops). (Different Centers may have different requirements; please reach out to your Center to learn more.)
4. Speak, write, and understand English fluently and clearly.
5. Be registered for 6 DVC-units minimum in fall/spring to qualify as a student worker. (3 units in summer; 12 units for International Students)
6. Not exceed 20 hours a week in your total workload on the DVC campus.
7. Be eligible to work on campus.
8. Make a commitment to work as a tutor for a minimum of two terms.

If you meet the 8 qualifications listed above and are passionate about helping others, please contact the Center in your discipline or EOPS for other tutoring opportunities. Each Center has specific requirements for their tutors.

New tutors must have completed or currently be enrolled in one of the following to be eligible:

• Intensive tutor training workshop (contact tutoring center for info)
• English 140 (see course schedule)
• Math 140 (see course schedule)
• INTD 140 (see course schedule)
