Financial aid is available to students that qualify and enroll during the summer. You may be eligible to receive a grant, work-study, or loan.
To see if you qualify to have your enrollment fees waived for the summer you can submit the 18-19 FAFSA, 18-19 California Dream Act Application or 18-19 California Promise Grant (formerly Board of Governors Fee Waiver online application). If you are qualified, a CA College Promise Grant (BOG Fee Waiver) award will appear on your award letter in InSite after your application is processed. Please note that the Financial Aid Office will process incoming 2018-2019 financial aid applications weekly starting in May.
Financial aid, specifically the Pell Grant, may be available for the summer depending how much Pell Grant you already received during the award year and your enrollment status for summer.
Effective for 2017-2018, students will be allowed to receive up to three full-time payments (150% of their maximum award amount) in one academic year (fall, spring, summer) if student enrolls at least half-time for the summer semester. Financial Aid defines half-time status as 6 units or more for all students. Previously, a student's summer Pell Grant was reduced by what they had used during the fall and spring semesters.
At the end of the spring semester, summer Pell Grant will be calculated and your award letter will be revised on InSite to show your summer aid eligibility. Please note that only students enrolled for summer will have the Pell Grant recalculated.
To qualify for summer Pell Grant you must:
If you received financial aid at another institution for the fall and/or spring semester, be sure that DVC is listed on your FAFSA. Once DVC receives your FAFSA and you have completed all the items required to determine your eligibility for aid, your summer aid eligibility will be determined. Any aid received at another institution must be taken into account when determining your eligibility for summer aid.
If you have questions about your eligibility for summer aid, please contact the DVC Financial Aid Office for more information.
Work-study may be available for the summer if you are enrolled at least half-time, meet all the eligibility criteria for federal work-study, and program funds are still available. Please inquire with the DVC Financial Aid Office for more information.
Loans may be available for summer if a student meets all the eligibility criteria. Please refer to the Student Loan section for more information.
